The package canabix-grub2 is designed to be used with grub2. It simply installs the graphic to /boot/grub

After installing it you need to edit a couple of files as root:

/etc/default/grub
Set resolution by changing gfxmode to read:
GRUB_GFXMODE=800x600
This is also where you set the default boot and timeout

Now open /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme and change moreblue-orbit-grub to canabix-grub2
You will also want to change the colours, I suggest that you change it to read:
set color_normal=white/black
set color_highlight=black/white

Now run as root: update-grub
